CULTURE - KAPA HAKA AND GAGANA SAMOA

At Mākoura College, our Kapa Haka and Polygroup are some of the most talented and passionate performers you'll find anywhere. These groups are made up of talented students who are dedicated to showcasing the beauty and power of Māori and Pasifika culture through song and dance.

Our Kapa Haka group is a force to be reckoned with, with their powerful haka and beautiful waiata bringing audiences to their feet.

Our Polygroup is just as talented, showcasing a wide range of Pacific Island cultures through dance and music. From the graceful movements of Samoan siva to the energetic beats of Tongan tau'olunga, our polygroup is sure to transport you to a world of music and dance unlike any other.

Our Kapa Haka and Polygroup are more than just performers - they're a community. Our students are passionate about sharing their culture with the world, and they work hard to build strong relationships with each other and with their audiences.

SCHOOL WAITA AND KARAKIA

KARAKIA

Whakataka te hau ki te uru,

Whakataka tō hau ki te tonga.

Kia makinakina ki uta,

Kia mataratara ki tai.

E hi ake ana te ata kura

he tio, he huka, he hauhunga.

Haumi e! Hui e! Taiki e!

The wind swings to the west

then turns to the south, settles down.

Making it prickly cold inland

Making it piercingly cold at sea.

The glowing morning will rise

on ice, on snow, on frost.

Join! Gather! Intertwine!
